/ Shopify SEO services for Shopify and Shopify Plus stores
Shopify SEO services built into your theme.
Shopify SEO services for stores that have outgrown the basics. Shopify creates duplicate product paths, indexable tag pages and app code you never asked for, and many fixes only exist in Liquid. We make those changes in your theme and admin, then build the collections and content that sell.
We'll also tell you which apps you can switch off.
Choosing who to hire? Shopify SEO agency: how we work
Illustrative growth curve. The totals are real, rounded down, across four stores using our SEO playbook.
First fixes live in 2 weeks/ Sound familiar?
Shopify covers the basics. Not the rest.
You get sitemaps, canonical tags and fast hosting out of the box. The trouble starts with how your theme links, how apps load and how the catalogue grows over time.
Every product lives at two addresses
Your theme links to /collections/shoes/products/runner instead of /products/runner. The canonical tag papers over it, but thousands of internal links still point at the duplicate.
Tag pages crowd out real collections
Every product tag spins up a filtered collection URL. Google crawls hundreds of thin, near-identical pages while the collections you actually sell from wait their turn.
Apps you deleted still load
Reviews, upsells, pop-ups, chat widgets. Each one adds scripts to every page, and many leave snippets behind in the theme long after you uninstall them.
Markets is on, rankings abroad are flat
Shopify Markets added /de/ and /fr/ subfolders and hreflang, but the collections are still in English and the German pages never show up in German search.
We work where Shopify SEO is really decided: theme code, admin settings and collection structure.
/ What's included
What our Shopify SEO services cover.
Five work areas, each tied to how Shopify behaves. Every theme change is made in a duplicate of your live theme, tested, then published.
URLs & duplicates
Our Shopify SEO services start with the URL structure Shopify won't let you change: /products/, /collections/ and /pages/. We work with it, cutting the duplicate paths, thin tag pages and auto-generated collections that split your rankings.
Why it matters: every crawl Google spends on tag filters and duplicate product paths is one it skips on the collections that earn money.
- Theme product links pointed at clean /products/ URLs
- Tag-filtered collection pages kept out of the index
- /collections/all, vendor and type pages handled on purpose
- Changed handles redirected in Shopify's URL redirects
- Variant URLs with ?variant= checked against canonicals
- How this fits our ecommerce SEO services
Liquid theme fixes
Plenty of SEO settings on Shopify don't exist in the admin at all. They sit in the theme's Liquid templates and sections. We edit those directly, so titles, headings, noindex rules and schema behave the same on every page.
Why it matters: a fix in one template reaches every product or collection using it, including the ones you add next year.
- Custom crawl rules in robots.txt.liquid where they help
- Noindex logic for search, tag and filter templates
- One H1 per template, set in the right section
- Product, Offer and BreadcrumbList JSON-LD from one source
- Conflicting schema from review apps removed
- Deeper crawl work by our technical SEO services team
Apps & speed
Most slow Shopify stores aren't slow because of Shopify. They're slow because of apps, heavy hero videos and oversized images. We audit every app, strip leftover code and fix how the theme loads images, fonts and scripts.
Why it matters: slow mobile pages cost you rankings and conversions at the same time, and app scripts are usually the main cause.
- A list of every app and the scripts it injects
- Orphaned snippets from uninstalled apps cleaned out
- App embeds switched off on pages that don't need them
- Responsive images through Shopify's image_url widths
- Core Web Vitals tracked from real Chrome user data
- Apps replaced by a few lines of theme code where simpler
Collections & content
Default Shopify templates leave little room for words. We use metafields and metaobjects to add collection intros, below-grid copy, size guides and FAQs that your team can edit later without a developer.
Why it matters: one collection page that ranks for a broad buying search usually outsells a dozen blog posts.
- Keyword research mapped to collections, not just products
- Collection copy above and below the grid via metafields
- New collections built where shoppers already search
- Product specs, care notes and FAQs as structured fields
- Blog posts linking into the collections they support
- Title and meta templates with sensible fallbacks
Markets & Shopify Plus
Shopify Markets makes selling abroad easy and ranking abroad harder than it looks. For Shopify Plus SEO we also handle expansion stores, multiple domains and larger catalogues, so each country gets URLs Google can find and trust.
Why it matters: a /de/ subfolder full of English collections almost never ranks in German search.
- Subfolders, subdomains or separate stores chosen per market
- Hreflang checked against what Google actually indexes
- Translations done properly, not just currency switched
- Automatic geo-redirects set so Googlebot reaches every market
- Keyword research in each market's own language
- Wider setup via our international SEO services
/ How it works
How we start on your store.
Shopify work moves fast once we know your theme. This is the order we go in, and what lands on your desk at each step.
Theme and app review
We crawl the store, read the theme code, list every installed app and pull duplicate and indexing reports from Search Console.
You get: a ranked fix list split into theme, admin and content work.
Theme fixes
Duplicate links, tag pages, noindex rules, schema and leftover app code are fixed in a duplicate theme, tested, then published.
You get: the first fixes live within two weeks of kickoff.
Collections and content
We rewrite the collections closest to page one, add metafield copy and create new collections where demand already exists.
You get: collection pages ranking for searches that end in orders.
Speed, markets, growth
Quarterly app reviews, collections for new ranges, launch support and market-by-market work if you sell abroad.
You get: a store that stays fast and keeps adding rankings.
/ Results
The playbook, in numbers.
These totals come from four online stores using our ecommerce SEO playbook over 16 months. On a Shopify store we run the same playbook, adapted to the platform's quirks.
SEO, across four stores
16 monthsclicks from Google, without paying for a single one
One of these stores now makes 20 to 30 sales every week from search alone.
Our clients' data stays theirs, so we show rounded totals rather than their dashboards.
/ Is this for you?
Shopify SEO for stores like yours.
✓A great fit if you are
- A Shopify or Shopify Plus store with collections and products worth ranking
- Running a long list of apps and unsure what each one costs you in speed
- Selling abroad with Shopify Markets or planning to add DACH, the UK or France
- Spending more on Google Ads every quarter and want search to carry part of that load
- Working with a theme developer who needs clear SEO tickets to build from
✕Probably not a fit if you
- Want an app to handle SEO for you. No app can do the theme and content work that matters most
- Can't allow any theme changes. Most of the important fixes live in theme code
- Aren't on Shopify. Our ecommerce SEO services cover other platforms
- Need a ranking jump before next week's sale. Changes take weeks to be crawled and to move positions
/ Before you choose
How to compare Shopify SEO offers.
Two proposals can both say Shopify SEO and mean completely different work. Put these questions to every offer on your desk, including ours, and the gaps show up quickly.
Does it include theme work?
Ask whether the price covers edits to Liquid templates, or only recommendations. If nobody touches the theme, duplicate links, noindex rules and schema stay broken however good the report looks.
Which apps would they remove?
A good offer reduces your app count. If the plan adds an SEO app, a schema app and an image app, you are paying for speed problems later.
How are collections handled?
Most Shopify revenue from search lands on collection pages. Check the offer names which collections get copy, which new ones get built, and how the content stays editable for your team.
What happens to Markets?
If you sell abroad, the scope should cover hreflang, translations and geo-redirects per market. If international is barely mentioned, it's probably not included. Our international SEO services page lists what to expect.
How is success reported?
Rankings alone tell you little. Ask for non-brand clicks, orders and revenue from organic search, split by collection where possible, every month.
Who makes the changes, and where?
You want named senior people working in a duplicate theme, with a written change log. Anything else makes your next theme update risky.
If an offer can't answer these in writing, ask for a sample deliverable before you sign anything.
/ Your options
App, developer, generalist, or us?
Most Shopify stores try one of these before they look for specialist help. Each has its place.
| SEO app | Theme developer | Generalist SEO agency | Perfometrics | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duplicate collection URLs | Can't change how the theme links | Can fix it when briefed precisely | Often flagged, rarely fixed in Liquid | ✓Fixed in the theme templates |
| Speed and app bloat | Adds one more app to load | Strong on code, less on SEO priorities | Reports a speed score | ✓App by app review, leftovers removed |
| Keywords and collection copy | Title and meta templates only | Not their focus | Yes | ✓Collections planned from keyword research |
| Markets and hreflang | Depends on the app | Sets it up, rarely checks indexing | Varies | ✓Checked in Search Console, market by market |
| Cost | Low monthly fee | Hourly or per project | Varies widely | ✓Fixed quote after the free audit |
